In MC 1.19.4 and 1.20, Mojang has made great strides towards making the creative tabs sorted and organized in a way that makes sense.

EMI is very close to be a supercharged creative inventory, it only lacks the following features to be so:

1. an option to split the items per-category, just like the creative tabs; unlike tabs, this can just be a linebreak+section title in the flow of the right hand side item panel
2. an option to summon (cheat) items only when creative mode is active
3. opening the creative inventory opens the 'survival' portion of the creative inventory by default (since the creative tabs features are provided by EMI).

Some of these ideas seem reasonable, I'm not clear on how I feel about everything just yet, but I think it's worthwhile to check it out
