Can't insert books in SMP

Me and my wife are playing on a LAN SMP map on 1.7.2 and we cant craft the Enchiridion but any time we go to place a book in it it won't let us.
Which book. Not all books fit in by default. You need to add additional books to the configs.
Any book written, the thauminomicon, ars compendium, witch wry books, etc.
