Might be worth reading up on petbats, https://github.com/AtomicStryker/atomicstrykers-minecraft-mods/tree/1.10 perhaps you could train your owls? I actually modified his mod and changed all the bat sounds to owl sounds, I changed the bat textures to owl textures, I even renamed everything, but sadly you still have to catch bats, and the bats hang instead of perch... but if your mod could use these features it would be rather awesome!
