Shift-clicking rewards out of Sifter

I have encountered two errors when shift-clicking items out of the rewards slots when using the Sifter.
First, I was sifting a stack of dirt, and it gave me pumpkin seeds. The pumpkin seeds would not enter my inventory when I shift-clicked them, and remained in the reward slot until manually removed. I recall this happening with other items too, but it seems to be inconsistent when it happens.
Second, I had 8 fern spores in my inventory, and got another one as a reward from the sifter. I shift-clicked the new one into my inventory, and instead of stacking with the existing 8, it entered my hotbar as a new stack. Manually stacking it with the other 8 worked fine. Again, I feel like I saw this before, but it seems inconsistent.
