Expected Behavior
Like stated in the Wiki of your mod I expect a tamed Glare to follow me as soon as I walk a bit too far away even without a lead.
Actual Behavior
My tamed Glare does not follow me around when I am adventuring and in caves unless I leash it. It does teleport to me when I use the teleport function of Xaero's Minimap to teleport myself to a waypoint far from where the glare is but from there on it just aimlessly moves from spot to spot like the untamed Glares do. I have placed glow berry vines in my house but it prefers to hover over a torch - sometimes moving to another torch. I have currently leashed it to a fence so I can build in peace not having to worry about the glare wandering away from me and my base.
It also doesn't shake glow berries or pick them up from the ground but I guess that is related to me having mobGriefing disabled. Or is the following around also linked to that game rule? That would be...unfortunate. But then again the teleporting does seem to work.
I do have quite a number of other mods installed, see the link to the Gist listing them below.
Reproduction Steps
Not sure how to reproduce it without downloading all those mods as it might just be due to some sort of incompatibility.
I was mining in the vicinity of a Lush Cave Biome when I noticed Xaero' Minimap showing glares, so I walked there to take a look at them, picked a few glow berries from the vines nearby and tamed one.
But even back then it just wouldn't follow me - perhaps due to that part of the cave being very narrow with a lot of turns and niches.
So I leashed it and lead it outside into my incomplete base and removed the leash. Even in that open space it didn't follow me around.
Since I play on easy with cheats enabled so the hunger bar depletes (peaceful does not deplete it), I tend to go into unlit caved in creative mode to not be bothered by the mobs. So the taming process took place while in creative but only noticed it after it was already tamed. I tend to forget I'm in creative when I'm in a cave for a while.
Switched back to Survival Mode. The Glare does show a tooltip saying I'm its Owner...but who knows - maybe taming it in Creative broke something.

Hello there, i just tried to tame a glare while in creative, glare follows just fine, are you sure the glare is just not in the sit mode? You can try to right click on it.
Yes I tried that. Also I just noticed, that the Glare teleported to me despite being leashed to a fence (not in sit-mode though). I will give it another try .... okay it won't follow no matter what - just tried. Also it shouldn't teleport when leashed to a fence ^^. It COULD be the mod "Followers teleport too" that mixes up stuff with teleportation here. Maybe I should try to leash it to a fence and then make it sit....ok - it does NOT teleport if leashed to a fence AND in sit mode.
Well the result by now is:
- If I don't want the Glare wandering around and straying far from home while doing so, I have to either keep it inside my base, or leash it to a fence
- If I want it to follow, I have to leash it
- If I want it to stay put even when I'm teleporting, I have to make it sit while being leashed
I also noticed, that the Glare stops moving entirely if I had it on a leash. I need to restart the game so it starts moving again. Just now I went into the game and the leashed glare tried to get to a torch nearby even though it's daytime outside where it is temporarily leashed. When I released it however it didn't move. I right clicked it to make sure it wasn't sitting. Still, no movement. It just hovers in place moving its eyes.
Ah well if it can't be reproduced it might just be that something quirky happened while I tamed it and now the things are as they are. I might as well get rid of it, since I actually don't really need it. I just tamed it on a whim. Still I do like how they use the texture of the Azalea and the flowering Azalea when tamed :)
So i created a creative flat world without any structures and basically placed fence and did the following:
- one tamed Glare leashed to fence not sitting
- one tamed Glare leashed to fence sitting
both of these did not followed or teleported to me under any circumstances (even save/load world)
- one tamed Glare sitting in the open world
same as above not following or teleporting
- one tamed Glare not sitting
followed me when close, teleported to me when far
So on my side everything seems to work as expected without other mods, can you please try these cases and share the results too?
Like try it without mods on a flat world or try it WITH mods on a flat world?
EDIT:
Right I had to remove all mods except of your ofc since Terralith and Oh the Biomes We've gone wouldn't let me create a true flat world.
So I have tested all those in a superflat environment with no other modes installed and as you state, it all works. So yeah it seems one of the mods I am using does seem to cause the strange behavior. Since I sort of don't feel like testing further by putting all the mods back in one by one (including all their dependencies like libraries) I guess I will leave it at that.
As I stated, basically I don't need a Glare pet ;) but they are a neat addition to Lush caves. I'm going to treat them like ambient creatures XD so This can be closed I guess even though it wasn't really resolved. We DO know it's one of the other mods interfering if not more. this is a classic trial and error search and I guess not even you feel like testing your mods compatibility with almost 200 mods and their dependencies ^^. Maybe one day there will be someone reporting that same issue using fewer mods so it can be pinned down.
Thanks for answering and for trying to pin it down. I will still continue using the mod and it's additions, since I like having those mobs and creatures around for a bit more versatility. Thank you for bringing the unused and undervoted content back :)
