The recipes don't use the forge:stone tag, which is a bit annoying since they'll only accept vanilla Stone.

I think that is the intent.
The recipe asks for Vanilla Stone, not any stone block.

Hmm, I see what you mean. You are mostly referring to how the other drawers use the stone tag in their crafting recipe, while the compacting drawer does not.

On that note, I would also recommend changing the fluid drawers, from the Minecraft:planks to the stones tag, due to their texture color being more in line with the compacting drawer and drawer controller.
