I may leave this for the next update after the Bismuth and Aura updates, or for the 1.14 port.

Currently, the player is required to make a Nether Portal-esque structure, light it with Glint and Gold, then they can enter Gaia. As much as this doesn't seem so bad, unfortunately it is rather primitive. Instead, the new plan will feature a new gate, requiring only one Keystone that now requires being activated, and some pillars shaped as follows:

X = new stone block
# = Keystone Block
- = Air (will become portal)

The ground must be solid, and current Biome limitations will still be in place, however it may be configured to not be sensitive.

A secondary option could be a sort of altar-like shape, utilising new blocks like Braziers that would need to be lit. Purpose of Keystones unknown in new shape. May still not be viable enough as the portal needs to form somewhere. Perhaps the new portal will become horizontal, but how would that work in terms of legacy worlds?

Will still need to think about this. The alternative is that the portal can stay as it is because it's easier to build a portal shaped like the Nether Portal than making a completely new shape and having to explain over and over how to make it (even with screenshots because that's how the internet seemingly works).

At the very least, the idea of the portal having more fidelity is implemented in development builds and will be released whenever the next update is out.
