Gregtech is sposta be believable and this is NOT how solar power works, if you want to gate solar i am perfectly fine with that but do it like GT5u did with Graphene wires and HV+ Circuits hell i am even fine with making them 1v rather than 8v
New System make solar like a multyblock. But the high voltage of single solar block is too simple in structure.
Well,if you have better ideas, welcome to improve it!
Seconded, Solar is a photoelectric cell, so it should be producing dc voltage directly. "Solars" collecting light and transmitting that over an optical bundle is more akin to a mirror in a solar boiling tower.
I'm all for mucking it around to make it more complex in some cases but we should be a bit closer to how it might function IRL
I am against using the GT5u way which is boring and grinding. Also like @TeinFanshu has said, super high voltage in single block solar panels is not reasonable.
I currently think we can renovate the system by changing 'LP' into something more realistic, like IC2 Coolant. Some solar panels in real world collect heat to heat up the coolant in pipes and the pipe. Then, it transports the heated coolant to a heat exchanger to produce steam. The problem might lie behind this is that it might be too complicated.
Another way of doing this could be having a Solar Tower that collects heat with mirrors around. This requires some time to be implemented.

There is residential solar heater, which just puts water in a thin sheet, but this won't get much above the temperature of asphalt even on a very hot day, let alone boil the water. I think your describing what's being done in a solar tower which will concentrate the heat enough to boil it which can then be used to push a turbine

I agree, but the detail is a bit weird, and honestly we don't get a lot of power out of IRL photoelectric cell panels, so if the the multiblock is a controller, and maybe a variable spam of panel blocks to output at a higher voltage, while allowing a single ticking entity to reduce load on the server I'm for that too.
As Bear mentioned, there are maybe some gains to be had changing to more efficent cells, but this should probably be in the order of 8,16,24,32 eu a block, not more massive values
I find one of the major balancing points of solar vs all the other power systems was always "space", since each one produces only a tiny amount and wiring the ULV is extremely affected by cable loss, it took much space just placing enough + wiring them with transformers. (That is the same reason IC2 solars were hardly used but the advanced solar panels (which did cost much more per EU produced), were so overpowered).
I like the idea of a multiblock but suggest that the flat area of the multiblock should be big enough, E.g. 0.5-1GU per 'solar machine block' + some 3x3 control main block.
I've played around a bit with the new solar panels.
They don't feel right tbh, the lossless cables and the many high powered tiers (very similar to Advanced Solarpanles addon in IC2), break the balance completely. (I had to disable all but the low tier ones on my server)
But also from a design point they feel wrong. I would much more prefer to have the old Solar Panel and additionally a solar boiler multiblock structure, where i can place mirrors around a 'solar boiler' block. That one then could turn water into steam (rates depending on number of mirror panels + maybe even biome) and then i turn the steam the usual way into electricity.
Collecting light using photovoltaic cells and transporting that to a single block is more magic than realistic and does not make sense at al.
The most realistic thing that could work with this LP system are fosforescent materials.

Changing LP to Coolant-Heatant sounds good.
Solar boiler would be awesome, the mirrors can be made with silver.
More solar panels types with different electric output is ok when they are realistic. Examples of materials that can be used for different ULV-LV tiers: 1 Silicon, 2 GalliumArsenide, 3 perovskite, 4 organic.
