Guidebook Items Replacing Other Items / Slots

One of the strangest issues with mods I've seen in a while. The Guidebook Manual and Rockhounding Manuals are replacing not only items from other mods, but even the deletion slot of the vanilla creative inventory:

Furthermore the items are actually hold-able (and read-able), but as far as I can tell the models/textures are completely broken/weird:

If you need any more information just let me know what to attach. Other than this, the game seems stable, it's just I can't have random items from other mods being replaced and unusable from this issue.

Are you certain they are "replacing" anything? I know that certain situations cause a random item to show in the deletion slot, and it just seems to happen that for you, the random item was a guidebook.

As for items from other mods, I would suspect it's caused by the same error that causes the missing models. Can you produce a debug log? In the vanilla launcher you can enable the log window and copy the contents to your favorite pastebin/gist service.

Pastebin says the text exceeds the size limit, and I don't know how to use Gist...

I guess I'll just upload the log file and link it here.

Here is the log, I hope it's the file you're looking for:

Hi, just curious if there's any update on the situation. ๐Ÿ˜… Sorry if I'm being impatient, it's not my intention!

The bug you are talking about is most likely the same as #24 which was fixed in version 1.7.5. However the only releases after 1.7.3(the version you are using) were 2.0.0 and 2.0.1, both of which are beta builds. If you want the fix you'll have to use one of these which might be unstable.

The bug does not replace items. It just makes all guide books appear in every single creative tab and doesn't remove anything! See #25 for details on why this happened.

About the broken models, idk. You'll have to wait what @gigaherz says about it. I'm at work currently so I unfortunately cannot read through your debug log.

Based on the debug logs, it's an issue I fixed in 1e835d3. That commit was the one I built 2.0.1 from, meaning only that version would include the fix. To use an older version of Guidebook, you will need an older version of forge also.

commented

Oh, unfortunately other mods require my current version of forge or higher I'm pretty sure. Apart from somehow including this fix into the latest release (because I won't ask that of you, I can understand that could be a lot of work), is there anything else that can be done to fix this, or will I just have to live without your (pretty cool) mod for now?

commented

Well the beta 2.0.1 technically is the latest release. it has a few known issues though, so you can use that at your own risk... ;P

commented

Oh! I understand now. Thank you!

As long as I don't run my server and see a mushroom cloud in the distance, it should be fine. :P

On second thought, do you know where I could read about these known issues?
And in future is there the possibility of this fix being included within the latest version of the mod (once again not asking you haha, just wondering whether you would do that of your own accord at some point)?

commented

@Necr0 I never even saw your message!! Thank you for clearing up that the bug doesn't actually replace items. In that case, I can live with it, it's just required by another mod we're using.

Just coming back to say I think this issue can be closed. Using the beta version of Guidebook, none of the issues originally mentioned occur anymore. Thanks for your help and patience, both of you. :)
