Different gear that can protect you from varying temperatures. So say, uh, an item has to be at least 500 degrees to burn you at all, and then leather protective gloves protect you from temperatures up to 800, next type of gloves protects you from temperatures up to 1200, etc.

Perhaps Leather Gloves (just leather) -> Insulated Gloves (using wool + something to make it harder to get than the first tier, perhaps slime) -> Fireproof Gloves (using magma cream)

In 1.15+ versions there's a config to add new mitts.
But if you are still interested we could add multiple mitts (with tiers) to the mod. Be aware that only the 1.15+ versions will receive this feature. Thank you for the issue/idea.
