What happened?

My hippogryph decided to fly super high up with no way to bring it back down except for using the tp command to bring it back.
This, however, has completely messed with it and it just hovers all the time. Which is annoying because it is a fast land mount as well, which I did utilise.
I've tried to use a lead on it to drag it back down and pushed it around with water but nothing resets it back onto its feet properly.
Also tried minecarts, and boats and animal cart for AstikorCarts.
They don't go in boats or cart, but the minecart they can sit in but it still doesn't fix the walking
