Suggestion: admin command / creative item to give skill xp

I've had multiple cases where I had to delete my player.dat file due to other mods bugs, and even though I can give myself materials back to recreate my tools, I have to re-level them manually. I don't want to use the creative modifier slot item because when I do use the tool and level skill, I'll have too many modifiers on the tool. An item that just jumps to the next higher skill level when applied would be really handy. It would also have great applications for adventure map makers.
