Custom shields don't have a bash animation

Either I'm stupid and messed up something in the config file, or the custom shields section isn't working properly.
I'm using IC v1.5.6

It might be the name of the item? Usually resource names for items don't have a "." in them (tool.shield_flux)
Are you sure the name is correct?

I'm using the item id to register custom variants. Can it be done with them?

Try just restonearsenal:shield_flux

You can always use the CraftTweaker command to get the resource location / name of the item:
/ct hand
