[Suggestion] Rework the Revolver
I really want to love the Revolver, but find it very difficult to justify using over a Crossbow or Bow.
Pros
Looks very cool, style is important after all.
Cons
Ammo is Expensive
Recent updates have reduced the cost of empty casings/shells but those largely get re-used anyway. It's filling them that hurts.
A real cubic meter of steel weighs approximately 7850 Kg, so an Ingot would be about 872 Kg. A single 00 Buckshot weighs in at about 0.0034 Kg... but a single IE Buckshot uses 2 whole ingots worth of steel. Compared to an arrow costing flint, sticks, and feathers, all of which are renewable. Even with an Iron Golem farm for Iron, this is just way too costly to justify. Dragons Breath? 4 ingots of Aluminum, ouch! Casull are more reasonable, but still 2 nuggets of Lead for a single shot?
It takes 2 Casull shots to kill a Villager. Anything with a bit of armor or more health and we're in danger because we've got so few shots, which comes to the next con. That's essentially 2 Bow shots at Power V, which cost me a tiny amount of durability and not even a full flint, stick, and feather.
At this cost, it makes far more sense to purchase ammo through villagers than to craft it. But this is a mod about factories and automation and buying ammo feels backwards. Obtaining metal is already time consuming, even when factoring in things like the Excavator (time spent locating a deposit, setting up the machine, and then repeating when it runs out).
Reloading is slow and manual.
A bow I only have to hold back briefly to 'reload', much like the Railgun. A crossbow, I can reload in advance, again by just holding right click briefly.
Reloading the revolver involves a sneak right click, manually pulling out 8+ shells, and manually inserting the replacements. This is aided somewhat by the Speed Loader... but those take up a full inventory slot for only 8 shots. At some point you're stopping to prep more.
Suggested Improvements
- Reload the Revolver like a crossbow. Hold fire to reload similar to how a Speed Loader works, but without the Speed Loader. Once full, you can fire again as normal. Firerate+ on gun parts speeds this up. This would also make the Extended Magazine more relevant as it would refill in this way. Ammo is prioritized exactly the way Bows/Crossbows prioritize it, by slot placement. Offhand, Toolbar 1-9, Inventory 1-27 in that order.
- Reduce Ammo costs. Approximately 1 nugget per 4 shots would be far more palatteable.
