When I was originally developing this, there we a lot of issues with clipping into blocks.
Iirc from doing that, lighting calculations are done to the nearest block, so we can pretty easily have lighting for immersives just inherit from whatever block caused them to show up.
As for the bag, lighting for that should be based on its position if possible.
There should also be a "full bright" option in the settings (disabled by default) which returns to the old behavior of always having maximum light.
