If you set the depth of the laser drill to 0 (which in some packs seems to hone in on particular ores better) and Save&Quit, then come back in, the depth resets to the default 120. Any other number works saves fine.
On a side note, an input box for the depth, or maybe adding a shift click to the arrows to step the values by 10's, would be really nice, and save many interface clicks when changing the depths.

(Side note, this could totally be "as intended". Not sure if depth zero actually has any certain impact, since it's RNG based. But it sure seems to when drilling for prosperity shards in OceanBlock)
