The contents of display panels are darker when the area they're in gets dark. Screens generally make their own light, so this should really be a constant brightness independent of light level.

This is actually intentional, it looked better like that IMO (this wasn't always this way).

But perhaps an option could be added to make the panel make light-level insensitive (i.e., emit light).
