What happened?

I noticed it the first time when I updated to 1.18.2 version. Suddenly the performance I get when in Singleplayer mode is as bad as in the vanilla client.

Do you have V-sync enabled?

commented

Lolo is correct, disabling vsync will significantly help your performance. Minecraft's implementation of vsync is very poorly done and tends to actually hurt performance.

I have vsync on, yes. Turning this off gives me around 180 hz ~ I would rather expect the game to give me 144 instead.
This screentearing is not really nice to watch tbh.

commented

You can limit the FPS with the "Max Framerate" setting available in "Video Settings".

145 gives me still quite an unstable image. Will have to try something else. Thanks for clearing things up tho.

I recommend you to disable ingame v-sync and enable v-sync directly in your driver, this will give a smoother result.

I tried that, but the nvidia panel would not let me find the default minecraft exe. I can only find the minecraft launcher there.

Use the global parameter instead. Of course, you can set the path to the Java exe, but this is less convenient for further use.
