Freecam cannot render ungerground anymore - some FOV logic added in 1.7?

What happened?

Basically this happens withs Iris 1.7.0: MinecraftFreecam/Freecam#205

While with 1.6.7 it doesnt. Did you add some logic, that nothing gets rendered where the user is not actually looking?

Can that be disabled in Mod-menu? Config file?

With Freecam mod and in free-cam mode in a cave? I can give it another test. Also for me it wasnt 100% dark. But 90% of the area... So I was able to see some caves, but 90% was just black.

Can confirm with iris1.7.0+1.20.1 and freecam. In my case if the camera goes into blocks chunks disappear and renders nothing

I get the same behavior with iris-1.7.0+mc1.20.6.jar.

Can confirm with iris1.7.1+1.21 and freecam v1.3.0-beta1+mc1.21
Also, if the player is in spectator mode, the territory will be rendered

Has any progress been made in identifying the cause of this issue?

Is anyone looking into this?
I have no idea who is who but to me, this post looks dead.
I have shared this post with the Modrinth Freecam but it would be nice to get some feedback.
I can't mod but I can test if that helps.
Thanks for your time and the devs hard work!

I can confirm that using Iris 1.6.17 with the aforementioned Freecam did not have this issue. I am now having the described issue with Iris 1.7.3 installed, even with the shaders disabled. I did not try using Iris versions between 1.6.17 and 1.7.3.

Removing Iris 1.7.3 from my mods folder solves the issue.

commented

Issue still persists with Iris 1.8.0-beta.3+mc1.21.1 and Freecam 1.3.0+mc1.21
Version is 1.21.1 with Fabric 0.16.2

commented

Issue still exists in 1.8 Beta 4 for Fabric 1.21(.1)
I would love to see this fixed. Iris is a great mod.
Thanks devs :)

Posting this here and also in the bug report for Freecam bug 205.
This rendering issue might be from a update to Minecraft itself, as when doing this testing, as with others, removing Iris from the mod folder fixes the issue.
But with Iris installed switching your game mode to spectator mode and go into freecam, this issue do not occur. And in Freecam mode, switching back to creative/survival/adventure makes everything go black again (except some tourches).

Has anyone from the Iris Shader team replied or even looked at this bug yet? It's been over 150 days and while I understand things take time, people have other lives etc, it would be nice to hear something.

1: There is no development team, just one person developing Iris. 2: The developer has other things to do, and a life.

1: I said team because I do not know how many are working on it.
2: I already mentioned that I understand that things take time and that people have lives.
3: While I understand you are offering help by replying, putting things like this in a numbered fashion comes across as being a jerk to be honest.
4: Your reply offers no helpful information in reply to my post.

Is it wrong of me to ask for some update after a couple months of my post and 5 months of the original comment, I think not but I will not comment again in respect to everyone else and just hope to hear something good soon.
I have great respect to devs but not to wasteful replies such as this, and now mine.

๐Ÿ’ธ I'll offer a 50โ‚ฌ PayPal (or similar) bounty to whomever fixes this.
Please ping me in the PR/commit fixing this.
The fix must be merged and be available as a github action artifact or official release.

commented

no need for that, I believe I have finally found the fix after looking for a while

Thanks @IMS212! Hopefully it works ๐Ÿคž

For anyone wanting to test out the fix before it makes it into a release, you can find build artifacts here in the relevant GitHub Actions result.

Scroll down to "Artifacts" and download "iris-artifacts", which is a zip file containing fabric and neoforge builds.

Just tested, works perfect again now with this.

To get a fix on version 1.20.1, wait only for the release?

The hotfix solved the issue, but ComplementaryUnbound 5.2.2 fail to load for me

seems to have been fixed, as im currently using iris1.8.1 + freecam1.3.0 combined, and they no longer reproduce the visual glitch.
