Vanilla chests can open with a non-solid block (stairs, slabs, glass, etc.) above them, so I would expect the entangled chest to work the same way. However, the entangled chest will not open with non-solid blocks above it. This makes them really restrictive in where they can be placed and still work, which limits my creativity when decorating my base.
