Classic crafting turns on when opening crafting using square

if you turn off classic crafting, it turns on on its own if you open the 2x2 crafting using square. you cant turn it off at all in servers

verified this does not happen in version 1.20.4-1.6.3a+fabric
Edit: nevermind, it does but only after being in the world for a while.
