I think you should be able to bind other furnaces from other mods. If it's better for you, perhaps include in the config file what items can be bind as furnaces.

I don't really think it's something that can be done easily through a config, tile entities are fairly temperamental. Unless it's a 1:1 copy of the vanilla furnace, it probably won't work. Hooking into the mod to make an implementation of the capability is possible, though.

I suggest a different approach. Maybe you can implement an upgrade for each mod? Like an augment that implements the enhancements to not just the Redstone Furnace but other machines as well (that's only 50% effective to compensate :) ).
