Lithium uses a "hard" version dependency to help prevent accidents that can occur when using an older version of Lithium on a newer version of Minecraft. If you are receiving errors such as...

lithium requires {minecraft @ [1.16.2 || 1.16.3 || 1.16.4]}

... this is because you are trying to use a version of Lithium designed for a different version of the game.

When will Lithium update to [version here]?

We are all volunteers, and as such are limited by our time, motivation, and energy. For larger updates, it can take time for us to examine the changes and update the mod accordingly. Most Minecraft point updates are small (such as 1.16.3 and 1.16.4) and require only a quick validation, however this is not always true.

Please do not ask about when Lithium will update to a new version of Minecraft. We are aware of when new updates come out, but we may not have time to immediately look into updating the mod.

Why not just remove the version lock if most updates don't change anything meaningful?

We can't know how much a Minecraft update will change ahead of time, and as such, we have to err on the side of caution as once a build of Lithium is released, we can't go back and mark it as incompatible with newer versions of Minecraft. Our stance on this is very unlikely to change for the foreseeable future.

What happens if I modify Lithium to run on a newer version of the game?

You may run into serious issues from doing this, and are essentially "on your own" if any issues do come up. Please remember that just because the game launches or things appear to be okay does not mean you will be trouble-free. Problems have come up in the past from users doing this which has resulted in strange behaviour and world corruption, hence the reason the mod is version-locked in the first place.
