A "Double (ingot) Plate" can be made from 1 ingot. You can smelt the Double (ingot) Plate for 1.5 ingots in a smeltery (216 millibuckets)

1. Make the Hydraulic Press (or Crushing Table)
2. Put the metal in the press (medium).
3. Smelt the Double Plate in the Smeltery.
4. Automate it.

Infinite Iron, Gold, Copper, Lead, Tungsten and Steel. :)
