Really broken in 1.16.5

I just tried out this mod in my 1.16.5 world, using the 1.2. version of the mod on forge 36.2.34., with Moonlib 1.9.0.. And I wish there was some sort of warning about how bare bones the mod is at this version, so that I wouldn't ruin my favourite map.
The atlas UI looks nothing like shown on the mod page, when you right click the atlas you just get the map opened the same way as if you held it in your hands. No red pin to click to add waypoints, no other selectable maps, nothing like that.
When you add more empty or filled maps, they get consumed but cannot be viewed or accessed in any way, the atlas always only opens the first map it was crafted with. Entering a new unexplored area does not expand the map using the empty maps.
It cannot be placed into a cartography table, which breaks several mechanics, like using the shears.
There is also no config file in the minecraft folder, but I can access the mod config if I have the Create mod. Not sure if there's supposed to be config though.
It's just a book that you have to hold to view the one map, plus the working minimap and once you craft it using your map, you cannot get that map back out of it.
Am I doing something wrong here? I tried testing it on a clean profile with no other mods to the same results, so I don't think it's caused by conflicts.
mods change and update the over time. its like complaining that 1.16 doesnt have wardens. mod changed and had drastic changes in 1.19+ with a bunch of new features, fixes and looks. 1.16 is many years old, its normal that the versions are very different with less features
It would be helpful if you disclosed that the mod doesn't work well on older versions then. I found the mod when looking through the list of 1.16.5 compatible mods, and the forge page showed me all these features that only exist in new versions of the mod. It is the first time I encountered a mod that works this badly on an older version of the game. It's practically useless, so why have it up on forge as a 1.16.5 mod if you're just going to tell me I'm not supposed to be playing on that version?
thats very usual with mods and programs in general. you must expect less features on very old versions as updates are precisely what adds new features. i dont think there's a need to specify whats there and whats not there, I dont think i have seen that in any other mod page. The 1.16 version is quite minimal compared to what it is now but i wouldnt say it does not work. I surely i know it has bugs, that's the main reason i started helping on this project, which i did starting from 1.18-1.19, but i feel your concern mainly comes from disappointment over the newer features that arent there rather than the basic map storing functionality not woking well, feature which was the main original feature of the mod
forge version was originally a port and went through 2-3 porters. quite a tumultuous ride. Anyways i dont have time to update such an old version, specially because that would mean painfully backporting the entirety of 1.20 version there which would be quite a huge endeavor
No I am disappointed that the main features of the mod aren't working. The map storing doesn't work, you can only view one map that you store, and the others just get consumed and never get used. The map in the atlas does not expand as you explore either, it just consumes empty maps and doesn't do anything with them. The only thing that works is the minimap and since it only shows the one map you used to craft the atlas with, that minimap is pretty worthless.
When I download a 1.16.5 mod, I expect at least the very basic features to work. But at this state the mod is just a way to delete your map.
soooo how about not listing it as a 1.16.5 mod or disclosing somewhere that the 1.2. version is outdated?
That would break all the packs that were using it. Tbh idk much about 1.16 version, never tried it myself so idk but I see it has downloads so parts of it got to be working , at least on some of those versions
Bet those packs that are "using it" got a kick from the great features. Those downloads are just people like me, who downloaded, tested, and uninstalled right away.
Can't be as the 1.16 version has been there way long before those new features even got added and I was aware of it existing and being maintained too. I almost became the second person to maintain it, I remember when that happened and most was popular enough to even have some other popular modder interested in porting it
