When you pick up an Extra Utilities Filing Cabinet with the Cardboard Box and place it back down, the Filing Cabinet is upgraded to an Advanced Filing Cabinet. The contents are retained.

If the items in the filing cabinet are stackable, you can take them out, but cannot put them back in.

The Advanced Filing Cabinet is a sub-id of the Filing Cabinet.

I have been able to repeat this process several times.
