Returning to Main meny at world load (new and old)

After having some problems getting minecraft to start with Mekanism i was informed that i needed
ic2's API installed.
i downloaded the industrialcraft-2-2.2.648-experimental-api and started the game and loaded a world all good so far. Closed the game anabled Mekanism started the game no problem.
However when i try to load a world or create a new world the game more or less instantly goes back to the main screen.
