Build at a distance seems 'off' for speed compared to prior

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • I have searched the existing issues.

Are you using the latest MineColonies Version?

  • I am running the latest beta/release version of MineColonies for my Minecraft version.
I am also running the latest versions of other mods that are part of my problem.

Did you check on the Wiki? or ask on Discord?

  • I checked the MineColonies Wiki and made sure my issue is not covered there. Or I was sent from discord to open an issue here.

What were you playing at the time? Were you able to reproduce it in both settings?

Current Behavior

So here is an example (1.20.1 , build 809)

They'll place 1 cobble every 16-20 sec
In either hilbert or default
This is a level 5 builder
stats in the mid 30-low 40
they also have the first three "place blocks faster " research done

Image
Above, builder is just under the glass, and placement is top center

Image
In this one the builder is behind the three horizontal end stone in the center, and the placement is in the foreground

Expected Behavior

It used to be a LOT faster. These folks are being super slow. EyeSpy mentioned the phenomenon on discord too, and at least one other player has mentioned.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Tell builder to build a level 1 hut where they have to do it at a distance (very common in Underwater, where you don't want them going out and drowning).
  2. Observe them taking HUGE amounts of time.

Logs

N/a

Anything else?

At least one player mentioned seeing it in 1.21 too so it's not only 1.20

current record in my current playthrough is 1 block every 25 seconds

I am also experiencing this exact issue, I'm playing on the latest public build of minecolonies, on Minecraft 1.21, and have found the builder to have an average block placement speed of around 4-5 blocks per minute when constructing the underwater style.

I've done some quick testing, and I've found that shortly after reloading, the builder will build at a normal pace, anywhere from 12 to 20 blocks per minute, but after a few minutes, the pace slows back down again. I've repeated this at least 3 times.

Here's another shot of a sifter being built. Lvl 5 builder, all but the top 'place blocks faster'. Never been sick/hungry/rained out. 40s for stats. Default build iterator (but note, hilbert shows similar 'progress' on other builds)
Took over 2 hours to get this far.

They're right behind that endstone horizontal line of 3.

Note, when having direct access they are super super fast (in levels 2+)

This really really hinders underwater very badly

Yeah this has become ridiculously slow. upgrading a module they are standing in is done super fast (I do my testing with max stats builder), yet building a new module takes a LOT longer than it should.

Penalties for distance that were not applied previously is - a terrible idea. So many styles now are designed in a way that means the existing distance system is counted on in order to make it viable, such as Stalactite, Cavern, Underwater, Aquatica.....the list goes on. We get a lot of really great changes, this isn't one of them :)

commented

one thing that COULD work is keep the distance penalty, but have it not apply below say y level 65 (default sea level) that way underground and underwater styles aren't impacted

I think that really stifles creative selection of build locations. Isn't it cool to see water styles built in the air, in the end, or the nether? Or cavern built jutting out of a big mountain? Higher diversity of build situations is (imo) the coolest part of the mod, vs. the "usual" run of the mill/typical cases, which frankly do seem to blend together over time

Noted similar problem in the Christmas tree style. It's very common for the builders to fall down into a hole among the leaf blocks. I combination with how worse the colonists are at teleport out from stuck positions these days makes for a very frustrating build.

We're at stage four now after starting this in December and babysitting the colonists makes me want to give up.

Me and my wife's next collaboration was supposed to be underwater but I guess we need to hold off on that.

While we all patiently wait for a fix (^_^) here is my workaround.
A minimalistic tunnel allowing the builder to move inside the new structure fixes the issue.

Is there any way to disable this distance penalty in the config? Aquatica style is impossible to play right now =(

Not sure if it helps, but I found out that at the beginning of the day, the builder places blocks quite quickly, regardless of distance. However, if it can't get close to the next placement, the delay gradually increases. It feels like some kind of recursion issue.

There is no distance penalty, the pathfinding for each pos makes it harder atm

Is there any temporary fix? The Aquatica style set is not playable right now. :(
