Pathfinding: Colonists too happy to take dropping damage

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • I have searched the existing issues.

Are you using the latest MineColonies Version?

  • I am running the latest beta/release version of MineColonies for my Minecraft version.
    I am also running the latest versions of other mods that are part of my problem.

Did you check on the Wiki? or ask on Discord?

  • I checked the MineColonies Wiki and made sure my issue is not covered there. Or I was sent from discord to open an issue here.

What were you playing at the time? Were you able to reproduce it in both settings?

Current Behavior

Here's a couple pathing decisions where they decided to drop multiple blocks and take damage.

In some cases they'll even loop where they'll take the same path over and over.
Below, you can see a place I had to put up blocks and had slime for the drop, where they'd loop and die

Note, there are other paths that are valid too, without drops

Expected Behavior

Don't drop from damaging heights. Maybe with an exception for fleeing from hostiles.

Reproduction Steps

Watch colonists path, with trackpath on. It's highly dependent on world layout I'd suspect.

I am on Minecolonies version 1.1.1145-1.21.1
Structurize 1.0.790

I also have colonists dropping off. They drop off ledges with 3 blocks, and take damage from it. Even when I have a path where no damage is taken when used, however it is longer so they do not want to use it.

When the path is a lot longer that can happen that they take a shortcut yes

In my initial examples though, there was a path that was almost as short. Or they were spiraling where they didn't need to go
So there are likely multiple potential scenarios in here, not sure

We did adjust it to be less aggressive, your initial example should be fine now

Ah, cool! I just updated our modpack and server, if I get time I'll go remove the babyproofing and watch em a while :D

When I notice the colonists doing these kinda of stuff, I tend to look at it form the Desired Path perspective... It clearly seems that the paths I've designed aren't as good, so I make adjustments. I'd put a stair in the area they tend to fall, and would add railings to the ledges. Colonists are very similar to real people in that regard. They do dumb stuff... hahaha
