Steps to reproduce the problem

Start the server.
load chunks.
done.

should also point out that this doesn't seem to cause any problems with playing the modpack but could be the reason for some server lag

Are you sure that is related to minecolonies?

i've never seen it happen on any vanilla server that i've hosted. only ever seen it when I started playing minecolonies

I contacted the server host and they also said that it is most likely something to do with the modpack.

ye its not minecolonies, but one mod in the pack causes it. We do not know which

Does this happen without minecolonies too?

I'll close this. It's one of the other mods causing this. With modded its difficult to find out which. But the regular spam should not come from mineclnies. Please update if you found out which mod did it.
