Can there be a 3D rendering of the Ship and Camp when we want to place it?
like all the other "huts", with the "building tool"?
Even if it forces the player to make the building tool first, which is NOT complicated at all.

To avoid the questions of "does it fit', "is it large enough pool of water", etc?
And to give the player a perspective if her/she needs to make more room and in what direction, where the "Chest" will be placed, how far from "shore" the ship will be, etc?

Maybe even placing Construction tape when it does not fit and player commits, so the player can see how much more he/she needs to clear/build to accomodate the Ship/Camp and once placed the Construction Tape dissapears?
