Achievements involving having a child/grandchild etc. don't work, however the achievements for growing your baby into a child and child into an adult do, as well as the chores achievements. Marrying them off also works. The monarch achievements don't work though - I've knighted or made peasants of my whole village and still haven't gotten the achievement.
