Villager's married but the ring on the sign shows up not married, or married at birth

My villager child are born married? the ring shows up not married with a X in it, but when I try and marry them off it says "I thought you knew I was married."

To Reproduce

  1. Click on villager and see the X in the ring
  2. Get a ring and try to marry them
  3. Says they are already married with X still in ring

Yes, it even comes up in chat,
“_____ is now an adult.”

I’m just very confused
