As noted on Discord, using a 1.11.2 version on 1.12.2 isn't going to work :)

Okay - found an issue where Curse was promoting the wrong releases for the wrong versions of Minecraft - such as the above issue shows. Curse and User error combined - 1.11 mods do not work on 1.12. Issue closed.
