Ravines generate "cut off" as shown in the image.
Caves also do a similar thing but it's been a while since I played beta so I dunno if that's intentional.

Can you provide seed and coords?

EDIT: Never mind, seems to be a common occurrence. I'll investigate. Appears to be an issue with ravines alone.
