Just like the enchantment does, you shouldn't burn when you have fire protection maxed out. The same with lava protection. If you have these on every piece of armor, it should cancel out the burning effect lava and fire causes.

Actually, the enchantment doesn't. It only reduces the burn time, which I instead decrease damage.
