How do I get the remote elevator panel to work

I have tried to use the remote elevator panel and I have bound it to one of the controllers but it wont move unless I remove it from the elevator. Please help

You cannot place the remote elevator panel inside the cabin as the cabin cannot contain any blocks with block entities.
