I've determined this is due to other mods. The solution is to support Forge Ore Dictionary in my mod which is on my list of todos.

Okay, What do you mean by Support Forge Ore Dictionary in your mod?

Ore Dictionary is a system in Forge that allows crafting recipes to use a group of items rather than a specific item in order to crafthing something. For instance, lots of mods add copper. If there is a crafting recipe that requires copper, you can use copper from any of the mods rather than the one it was originally desgined for.
