Not rendering chunks in 1.8 server in 1.18.1

This is probably because 1.8 is in beta for multiconnect, but when I tried to join a 1.8 server using multiconnect to "be" on 1.8, the chunks outside where I leaded in would not generate, and there were cave sounds that were constantly playing the whole time.
