just by coincidence i found this crash with my modpack
happened in multiplayer and even in singleplayer
but only in creative mode
reproduced repeately, just open inventory, select item and push R to show recipes, then it will crash after a moment or when you push ESC to return.

tested with NEI 2.3.20 up to 2.3.76

Do you have the Trash Slot mod enabled? If so, this is the same as #422 and I have the same problem.
