Problem with Microsoft authentication

The issue

I am getting the following error when trying to join a server:

Failed to connect to the server
Failed to log in: The authentication servers are currently down for maintenance.

On the multiplayer server screen, beside OAuth Login button, I have Status: offline.

On clicking the OAuth Login button, on top it shows Current Profile: <my username> with the correct username, but there is no selection there. The Login, Login Offline and Remove Account buttons are greyed out.

On clicking the Add Account button, it redirects to the browser, upon authentication, the text changes to something about Microsoft then XBox then it shows the error which takes me here on GitHub.

Things I have tried

I tried restarting my instance, using different internet connections, and deleting and reinstalling my instance.

I am able to play in singleplayer.

Minimal steps to recreate

  1. Download Modpack in FTB Launcher
  2. Import to MultiMC with FTB Import option
  3. Open instance
