Performance Issue with Mod on Dedicated Server

Hi,

I’ve been using your mod in Single Player for a while, and it has worked flawlessly. However, I recently set up a dedicated server and noticed a performance difference when using the mod in a heavily modded environment.

Issue Description

When the mod is installed on a dedicated server with a large modpack, the performance slows significantly. Specifically, the time it takes for a tree to start falling increases, depending on the tree size, but it only seems to happen on the server. The same modpack in Single Player does not present the same issue.

To investigate, I ran a test with only your mod and its dependencies installed:

  • In Single Player, the mod works perfectly, with no noticeable delays.
  • On a Dedicated Server, even with no additional mods, the tree-felling action takes slightly longer (about 1–2 frames). This delay is negligible in this minimal setup, almost impossible to notice, but becomes much more pronounced when multiple mods are present, with delays of several seconds for larger trees.

Observations

  • The issue only affects tree-felling mechanics.
  • Other server metrics (e.g., MSPT, TPS) remain stable even during these delays, and entities continue to tick without issues.
  • The problem appears to be related to server-side calculations rather than general server performance.

Steps Taken

  1. I tested alternative tree mods like Tree Harvester and Fallen Trees. Both exhibit similar behavior under the same conditions, suggesting a broader compatibility or optimization issue.
  2. I recorded a side-by-side comparison of the mod in Single Player and on the server. The video demonstrates the delay:

Additional Context

I contacted my server hosting provider for assistance. Their response (attached below) suggests the issue may be tied to how the mod interacts with server mechanics. They recommended reaching out to the mod author for further insights or potential improvements.

Apex Hosting Support Response:

Hello YUMATAN,

Based on the issue you described, it seems like the problem might be tied to the way the mod's code interacts with dedicated servers. Unfortunately, there’s likely not much that can be done on your end to fully resolve this.

I’d recommend trying out alternative tree mods if any are available, as they might work better in your setup. If you’ve already tested others with similar results, this could confirm it’s specific to how these mods handle certain server mechanics.

Additionally, it might help to record a video showcasing the issue and share it with the mod author. They may have some suggestions or might even be able to improve the mod in future updates.

If you have any further questions or concerns, don't hesitate to let us know.
