The bug is, as far as I can tell due to the new step height attribute introduced in version 3, reverted in 15 (which works fine) and reintroduced in 16 (which crashes again). As stated above, the logs are extraordinarily unhelpful, but here's the 40.1.16 commit.
This can be reproduced with only Pehkui and forge installed.
Is there a way of fixing this then?
