can't link different sized portals

So i tried to make 1 small and 1 big portal, but when i try to turn them on, the portal i lit will just make another portal because it cant find another portal, even though i have a portal (wich is slightly bigger) next to it. how can i make small and big portals link with eachother?? I have pehkui mod btw
