Hello. When I was recently testing and comparing all this stuff with each other, I noticed that gold pipes are the fastest ones. I don't know it is intended or not, but I think diamond is more expensive than gold (especially in Minecraft 1.10+) so diamond pipes should be more profitable.

Diamond pipes are set to higher performance than gold ones, but their values are not referenced. In other word, the gold pipe was designed as a mere high speed pipe, but it is the highest performance pipe because values other than speed are not used. This is a kind of bug and it is an unimplemented area, so I think it is one of tasks.

OK. I didn't know that you plan to add more pipe-related mechanics in the future. They sound great :)
