Can't you leave the upper bound empty? That way if it updates, it still works unless there was a change that would break it, rather than it just stopping since it's not in the version range

i tried that approach, but create changes the api a LOT between updates. so i would just get a ton of bug reports

it breaks something that a mod uses most of the time, it wouldnt be worth it
