Is it possible to make solar panels transfer power across other panels?

I would love for solar panels to be able to transfer power sideways across other solar panels so you can have vertically slimmer designs. I want to coat my rooftop with them but they currently require cables under each panel which makes the entire setup taller/uglier. Is this possible? Thanks.
