Unclear how to properly use the wrench and no explanation to be found

Issue description:
It is unclear how to use the wrench. The ingame manual doesn't explain how to use the wrench, and I haven't been able to find it anywhere else either. Crouching and changing the mode is as far as I got, as for the other modes crouching and clicking didn't seem to do anything, so I am at a loss how to use the thing. A short explanation would be greatly appriciated.
