I tried putting it in solid blocks like sandstone and sandstone, but it did not work.

Same issue here, on 1.10.2. Wires can be placed, but none of the gates can. This is happening on ProjectRed Integration 4.8.1.25 for me

Only other mods installed are:

• OpenComputers
• ProjectRed Base, Lighting, Mechanical, World and latest dependencies
• JEI
• Waila

This problem occured with me to but i managed to fix it with updating Project Red integration and forgemultipart
I use:
ProjectRed 1.10.2-4.8.2.41-Base
Same for integration, lighting, mechanical and world
and for Multipart 1.10.2-2.0.0.31

This was fixed ages ago, update your mods people.
