As title says, not really a huge issue but i've just added it to an existing world and enabled the retrogen configs appropriately but i've no idea what to do now

Thats it. Ores will now generate as you move around the map. The retro-gen ID value in the configs is used to keep track of where this has been done already. If you change it, the ores will again regenerate.
